Linux Mint 16 “Petra” 32 Bit And 64 Bit



Linux Mint is an Ubuntu-based distribution whose goal is to provide a more complete out-of-the-box experience by including browser plugins, media codecs, support for DVD playback, Java and other components. It also adds a custom desktop and menus, several unique configuration tools, and a web-based package installation interface. Linux Mint is compatible with Ubuntu software repositories.
Linux Mint team is proud to announce the release of Linux Mint 16 'Petra'. Linux Mint 16 is the result of six months of incremental development on top of stable and reliable technologies. This new release comes with updated software and brings refinements and new features to make your desktop even more comfortable to use. One of the more interesting updates of the release is version 2.0.x of Cinnamon (a fork of GNOME Shell), with a large number of new features: "Cinnamon 2.0.x represents 5 months of development and 856 commits from 28 developers. It features a lot of bug fixes but also brand new features and many improvements."

Processor: x86 processor (Linux Mint 64-bit requires a 64-bit processor. Linux Mint 32-bit works on both 32-bit and 64-bit processors).
System Memory: 512 MB RAM (1 GB recommended for a comfortable usage).
Hard Drive: 5 GB of disk space.
Graphic Card: Graphics card capable of 800×600 resolution.
Installer Media: CD/DVD drive or USB. 
PAE: required for 32-bit ISOs.

  Linux Mint 16 “Petra” Installation
  • Boot your system with bootable Linux Mint 16 or ISO media. In this article, we have used Linux Mint 16 ‘MATE‘ 32-bit Live ISO media.
  • We will get Linux Mint Desktop, Click on CD ICON “Install Linux Mint” to get started.
  • Installation Wizard started, select Language.
  • Preparing to install Linux Mint.
  • Installation type. Select "Use LVM with the new Linux Mint installation"
  • Installation type “Something else” wherein you need to create partitions manually. (For advanced users)
  • Location Settings.
  • Keyboard layout settings.
  • Fill User informations.
  • That’s it. Installation Completed. Eject bootable media and restart system.
  • Login screen.
